What Are X-Pipe?
An X-pipe is an aftermarket exhaust crossover section that links the left and right banks of a dual exhaust in an X-shape, equalising pressure and altering the exhaust note. It's not a factory Peugeot part — we only see X-pipes on dual-outlet sport models or custom builds on 208 GTi, 308 GTi and 3008 with aftermarket systems.

Common Questions About X-Pipe
What is the difference between an X-pipe and an H-pipe?
Both crossover designs equalise pressure between dual exhausts. The X-pipe crosses in an X and gives a sharper, higher-pitched 'European' tone. The H-pipe uses a straight connector between the two pipes and produces a deeper, muscle-car rumble. Neither is factory-fit on a Peugeot.
How much does an X-pipe exhaust cost to install?
Full exhaust jobs in SA run R2,500 to R10,000 depending on system and material. X-pipes alone fitted by Powerflow, Autostyle Motorsport or similar cost less. Request a free quote through our form if you're fitting one to a Peugeot GTi or custom build.
Does an X-pipe change the exhaust sound?
Yes — meaningfully. An X-pipe sharpens the tone and raises the pitch, producing the 'scream' you hear on sporty Euro cars. On a dual-outlet Peugeot GTi it cleans up the note and adds character. On a single-exit system it's not applicable.
Can an X-pipe cause exhaust drone?
Poorly designed or badly fitted X-pipes can introduce drone at specific cruise RPMs where the pipe lengths resonate. A reputable SA exhaust shop like Powerflow or Power Pipes designs around that. Drone after an aftermarket fit usually means re-engineering is needed.
Is an X-pipe legal for road use in South Africa?
Yes, provided overall exhaust noise stays within the SABS and National Road Traffic Act limits. A catted X-pipe that keeps emissions compliant is fine. Straight-through decat versions risk a fine and failing roadworthy, so confirm with your fitter before ordering.
