Peugeot 307 Brake Fluid

Peugeot specifies DOT 4 brake fluid across the modern range — 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 508 and 5008 all use it. The official peugeot.co.za site confirms this. Never use DOT 5 silicone fluid; it is not compatible with ABS seals.

Every two years or 40,000 to 60,000 km, whichever comes first — per Peugeot's official service schedule. SA's humidity speeds up moisture absorption, so coastal owners should stick to the two-year interval even on lower mileage cars.

SA retail DOT 4 is affordable — Liqui Moly, Castrol and Engman all stock 500 ml bottles. Engman is listed around R65.86 and Castrol around R99. Full bleed labour at a workshop adds roughly one hour. Ask for a quote bundled with pads.

Technically yes — both are glycol-based and miscible. But DOT 3 has a lower boiling point, so mixing reduces the overall performance of the system. We recommend a full flush with fresh DOT 4 rather than topping up with the wrong spec.

Spongy pedal on long descents, dark or black fluid colour, and ABS activating more readily in the wet. Moisture in aged fluid boils at lower temperatures, producing vapour bubbles and pedal fade. A cheap test strip at your workshop confirms the water content.
