Peugeot 107 Ignition Coils

Single coils run R300-R2,250 through SA suppliers including AfricaBoyz, Ace Auto, Brits Brothers and Modern Auto Parts. A full set of four on a 207 or 307 lands under R3,000 for most OEM-spec aftermarket kits.

A rough idle, engine warning light and misfire codes on one cylinder are the giveaways. The engine feels like it is tripping over itself at low revs and smooths out on the open road. Fuel use climbs.

Budget R500-R2,500 fitted per coil at an SA indie, parts and labour included. Replacing all four on a 1.6 VTi costs R2,500-R5,000 with plugs, which we always recommend doing at the same time.

Only to the nearest workshop. A dead coil dumps raw petrol into the catalytic converter, which destroys it within a few hundred kilometres. That turns a R600 coil into a R15,000 cat replacement.

OEM coils on 206, 207 and 307 petrols typically last 90,000-120,000km. High-mileage, short-trip cars or those running old spark plugs fail earlier. Always fit plugs and coils as a matched set to avoid premature failure.
